Just a short drive from the county town, this welcoming late Georgian house in secluded parkland is in a lovely, peaceful area close to Donegal Bay. Belgian proprietor, Edward Dewael - who fell for the property some years ago and is still in the process of upgrading it - personally ensures that everything possible is done to make guests feel at home, and a programme can be arranged for guests wishing to spend a few days in this delightful place.

Weddings - which cannot be held on Saturdays - take over the whole house for a private, exclusive reception, and all nine rooms must be taken. The reception is held in an elegant and well-appointed period dining room which is - like the food served here - attractive yet not too formal. There’s an emphasis on local produce, notably seafood - and of superb quality - but the style is classic Belgian, and Belgian chocolate is a must for dessert. There is plenty of milling around space for guests, in a pleasant wood-panelled bar with an open fire, extending into a conservatory on one side and a drawing room on the other.

Accommodation (which includes two family rooms and two on the ground floor) is divided between spacious new rooms in a recently converted coach house at the back, which have excellent bathrooms and plenty of room for golf bags and large items of luggage, and older rooms in the main house - some have countryside views and open fireplaces and they are comfortable and well-proportioned, with recently renewed bathrooms.
