Dromoland Castle Hotel
Dromoland Castle Hotel
The ancestral home of the O’Briens, barons of Inchiquin and direct descendants of Brian Boru, High King of Ireland, this is one of the few Irish estates tracing its history back to Gaelic royal families, and it is now one of Ireland’s grandest hotels, and one of the best-loved. Despite the grandeur of the surroundings, it is a relaxing hotel, where the lakes and parkland and the magnificent furnishings to be expected of a real Irish castle all enhance the pleasure for guests - and it makes a wonderfully romantic setting for a wedding. For the marriage ceremony there is a choice of churches nearby, and blessings can also be held in the castle; no formal wedding planning service is offered and items like transport and decorating the venue are the responsibility of the bride and groom, but there is a wedding co-ordinator to ensure that every detail is covered.
The drinks reception is held in the vaulted Kincora Gallery - an atmospheric area with wonderful views overlooking Dromoland Lough and the impressive Brian Boru Hall, where the wedding banquet - a formal 5-course dinner, with personalised menus and full table service - is served. Guest rooms and suites vary in size and appointments, but they are generally spacious, all have been refurbished recently and have luxurious bathrooms; unusually, there is no requirement for the wedding party to take a number of rooms, but guests are sure to feel that staying here is part of the castle experience, and there is a discount if at least 10 rooms are booked. - and there is so much to do on site and in the area that a longer stay will be very tempting.
