100 Brides and Grooms to plant Oak Trees at Barberstown Castle
Barberstown Castle, built in the 13th century and situated on 20acres of Kildare countryside, is offering the next 100 brides and grooms who book their Wedding at Barberstown Castle, the special opportunity to have an Oak Tree dedicated to them on the grounds of Ireland’s oldest inhabited castle, to honour their Wedding Day.The first 100 couples that place a deposit for their wedding with Barberstown Castle will receive an Oak Tree planted in their honour on the leafy grounds to mark their special day. On average Oak Trees can live more than 200 years meaning a Bride and Grooms wedding day will be marked and physically rooted in the Castle’s grounds for decades to come.
Historically, Oak Trees dotted the picturesque surrounds of Barberstown Castle so by replanting the 100 Oak Trees, the Castle is going back to its landscape roots and redefining its integral connection to the local area.
Catering for weddings as small as 50 and as large as 300, Barberstown Castle is renowned for its architecture and splendid interior most of all it’s Medieval Banqueting Hall where the receptions are held. Couples also have the option of having an onsite Civil Ceremony in the Castle’s Conservatory Hall.
Old world splendour characterises the Medieval Banqueting Hall which dates from 1562 and features vaulted ceilings, medieval iron chandeliers and antique gothic oak furniture. It’s exposed stone walls are complimented with exquisite candelabras and medieval tapestries and two open log fireplaces that bring warmth to the unique atmosphere that the room is renowned for.
The Castle’s Conservatory Hall naturally boasts beautiful light that compliments whites, creams and other colours that are traditionally worn by the Bride and her Wedding party. Situated adjacent to the Conservatory is a private Medieval Courtyard which features a beautiful gothic gazebo and built-in BBQ area, perfect for a unique candlelit ‘afters’ on a balmy evening.
Home to a fascinating history, Barberstown Castle was one of the first great Irish country houses to display its splendor to the outside world when it opened as a hotel in 1971. It has maintained the elegance of design over eight Centuries by sympathetically blending its Victorian and Elizabethan extensions with the original Castle Battlement of 1288.
