Kinnitty Castle
Kinnitty Castle
Furnished in keeping with its dramatic history and theatrical character, this Gothic Revival castle in the foothills of the Slieve Bloom Mountains is at the centre of a very large estate (accessible for horse riding and walking) with 650 acres of parkland and formal gardens.Public areas are more or less in the style expected of a castle hotel and include a library bar, Georgian style dining room, Louis XV drawing room and an atmospheric Dungeon Bar where there is traditional music on Friday nights all year - and there is a large function room off a courtyard to the rear of the castle, where weddings are held. Kinnitty Castle is a wacky place and has earned a reputation for well-run weddings with a fun atmosphere - celebrity weddings are a regular feature.
There is a church nearby, in Kinnitty village, wedding blessings are possible at the castle and there is a dedicated wedding manager to help see each wedding through seamlessly from start to finish - whether it is beauty treatments or wedding make-up at the Gate Lodge Spa, organising a vintage car, horse-drawn carriage, helicopter, or a coach for guests, booking a piper (availability depends on the month of the wedding), selecting the menu or arranging the wedding cake, every detail can be overseen.
There is even an in-house florist who can assist with the decor and provide posies and buttonholes for the wedding party.
Guest accommodation varies from big, romantic bedrooms with sumptuous bathrooms, at the front of the castle, to more ordinary rooms at the back; but, although the castle is available for exclusive use if required, no minimum number of rooms need be taken.
Warm and friendly staff are a feature of the castle, adding to the overall sense of fun.
