Gina Murphy and her husband Padraig McLoughlin’s large bar and ‘informal fine dining’ restaurant is named after a mountain in the nearby Slieve Blooms (the border between Laois and Offaly is at its peak), and occupies a large town centre building near the harbour, which they have renovated and furnished with flair.

The spacious first floor restaurant and cocktail bar, where the reception is held, has great style and, with its warm atmosphere, great hospitality, and head chef Ronan Fox’s consistently good cooking (an imaginative mixture of traditional and contemporary) it makes a fine romantic wedding venue.

Wedding blessings are not possible here (yet), but there’s a very quaint church just a few miles away at Durrow, and Tullamore church is within easy walking distance. Unusually for a venue of this type, a wedding planning service is offered and, not only will they arrange extras like a chauffeur, florist and so on, but music can be organised (Padraig and Ronan are both traditional musicians, and there’s a regular DJ at weekends) and Gina and her team also decorate the venue.

The cost of holding a wedding here depends very much on the day of the week, as the venue hire charge varies from €1,500 (Sunday to Thursday, except bank holidays), to €2,000 on Friday (and bank holiday Mondays) and rises to €2,500 on Saturday.

Ronan’s menus vary from four to six courses, with supplements for choices depending on the selection made, and - in line with their policy of serving only top quality fresh food - everything on the children’s menu is also home-made.
