Pearse and Mary O’Sullivan’s buzzy downtown restaurant is above the Kinsale micro-brewery, who pump their Kinsale lager, wheat beer and stout directly up to Toddies’ bar. Approaching under an arch, stairs lead up to the restaurant from a courtyard, pausing at a large and stylish al fresco dining area on two terraces, before arrival at the bar and a smart split-level dining room.

Wedding blessings are not possible here but nearby churches include The Friary (Catholic; recently refurbished, extremely pretty) and Saint Multose (Protestant, small walled-in church in the centre of town, reputed to be the oldest church in Ireland). This is not the kind of place to offer a wedding planning service, but vintage car or limousine hire can be arranged, also a coach or car with driver for guests.

Pearse’s modern Irish menus are individually designed for each couple - seafood is the speciality but Pearse’s high regard for local meats (and west Cork cheeses), ensures a balanced choice. You’ll get the red carpet treatment too - and, as well as a ground floor bar, the restaurant will be set up with a marquee to extend it onto the first floor terrace, with candles and flowers on all the tables.
